Sundance Film Festival 2024

Challenge

Populating Wikipedia with quality content is the effort of volunteers worldwide. In addition to the continual need for written content, there is an even more urgent need for photographic content, particularly in arts & culture. The Sundance Film Festival provided an opportunity for our journalistic documentation of up & coming talent to be published on one of the most visited websites in the world. 

Results

Jason Weinrich and Fritz Schulenburg attended the 2024 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. As accredited press photographers, they were given media access to the cast & crew for premiering films. The photography and motion video assets captured were edited and uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, which is a highly trafficked repository allowing for the republishing of content according to the free license the media is released under. The images have since been added to the Wikipedia pages of actors/actresses, directors, producers, & writers. The event also provided industry-specific networking opportunities, connecting us with professionals around the country working in media production, public relations, and entertainment.
